The above quote is from one of my all time favorite books Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants. If you haven’t read it already, I highly recommend getting a copy and luxuriating in it.

I find when I connect with animals by recognizing and acknowledging their own self, intention and compassion, it’s like a new, bright, vibrant world has opened up! The connection becomes deeper, and more authentic as the animals recognize that I’m connecting with them as best I can without needing to validate their experience through my human perspective.

OK, true confession. it’s not always as easy as it sounds. It takes consciousness, perserverance, practice and patience. It also takes community and moral support because we’re not meant to be lone rangers.
